“Behind” The Scenes Contributors To Oral Health Problems

Just because you know we are here to help you by offering oral surgery, emergency dentistry, tooth replacements, and more doesn’t mean that you should just give up on your oral health care plans. True, we can save your smile when something goes wrong. However, it’s always easiest to make sure everything is going right, so you can limit your need for things like dental surgery. Unfortunately, if you feel like you’re doing your best but you keep ending up with problems, you may be missing some little “behind” the scenes details. Some simple reminders may be what you need to get your smile care done much more effectively!

Not Brushing Behind Teeth

One of those things we find patients often overlook that is so key for excellent oral health? Not realizing that you need to brush behind your teeth, or on the lingual side, which means those surfaces that face your tongue. These need brushing, too, as do all of your available tooth surfaces. Otherwise, you may end up with decay or gum inflammation.

Not Flossing Behind Back Teeth

Those teeth in the very back of your smile have back surfaces. Though they do not touch another tooth, it’s wise to floss these edges, as well. It keeps plaque and debris from resting on teeth (which promotes decay) and irritating gum tissue (which can promote gum disease).

Falling Behind With Smile Care

If you fall behind, remember it’s never too late to catch up. Simply begin your dental hygiene again and get on track to protect your oral health. Schedule a cleaning and checkup ASAP. It’s the staying behind on your care that can really start to lead to problems (but remember that even if it’s been several years, we can help!).
