Wisdom Teeth Removal: 3 Things To Remember

There are a lot of things to learn, of course, if you’re considering wisdom teeth removal. We expect you to ask us a lot of questions, so feel free to bring them up! As for planning the actual procedure and choosing your dates and times, we like to remind patients that this is not the same as setting up a filling. It will take more time and will require just a bit more attention to detail. Remember a few very important things!

#1: You’ll Need A Ride Home (And A Bit More)

Patients receiving wisdom teeth removal will generally be under IV sedation. This means that you can’t drive yourself home (you’ll need a ride). You will probably also need someone to keep an eye on you for a few hours until enough of the sedation has worn off for you to safely care for yourself, walk yourself to the bathroom, etc.

#2: You’ll Need To Take It Easy

Wisdom teeth removal isn’t a procedure from which you leave to head back to work. You’ll be going home and you will need to rest for two or three days (if not a couple more). Keep this in mind if work, classes, or other pressing responsibilities mean you need to create some careful planning.

#3: You May Want To Wait For A Long Break

Nope, nobody wants to spend spring break, holiday time, or any other “time off” by coming in for wisdom teeth removal and then spending the remaining time resting and recovering. However, if you have a lot of obligations or a tight schedule, then this may be the best decision for you. Pay close attention to how removal and recovery will affect your daily schedule and plan accordingly.
